SLU PT Student Jacquelyn Cameli Enjoys Interdisciplinary Approach to Clinical Care at SSM Health Day Institute

SLU PT Clinical Site Spotlight - SSM Health Day Institute
By:  Jacquelyn Cameli (DPT Class of 2022)

I loved my clinical experience at SSM Health Day Institute. I especially enjoyed working alongside other disciplines in order to provide a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to patient care for patients with neurological conditions. Neurological conditions affect the brain, spinal cord, or nervous system, and physical therapy is a vital component in working towards improving balance, strength, flexibility, endurance, and maximizing independence and functional ability in regards to bed mobility, transfers, and gait. I was able to work with patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Alzheimer’s Disease, Below-Knee Amputations, Epilepsy, Lance- Adams Syndrome (LAS), Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, Spinal Cord Injuries, Strokes, Traumatic Brain Injuries, and Vestibular Conditions.

I enjoyed working with patients thoroughly and seeing their successes and progress throughout their rehabilitation. I am very thankful to have been involved in their therapy and for the relationships I formed with patients, other physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and recreational therapists along the way. Thank you especially to Rosie Kelly, PT, DPT, NCS, for being my clinical instructor!

This is one of a series of posts by the Saint Louis University Program in Physical Therapy students featuring their clinical site and their clinical instructors. The number, quality, and diversity of clinical instruction are major assets for the SLU PT Program.

SLU PT Students Recognized by the Foundation for Physical Therapy Research at the 2021 Virtual Awards Ceremony

Saint Louis University Program in Physical Therapy Students Receive National Recognition for their Contribution to the VCU-Marquette Challenge

The Foundation for Physical Therapy Research (FPTR) awarded the Saint Louis University Program in Physical Therapy students with an Honorable Mention for their efforts to support the Foundation through the 2019-2020 & 2020-2021 VCU-Marquette Challenge. Altogether, the SLU Program in Physical Therapy raised over $4,000 in donations.

The SLU Physical Therapy Student Association (PTSA) created the inaugural event Billikens Impacting the Future to raise funds for the VCU-Marquette Challenge benefiting the Foundation for Physical Therapy Research. The three-part event, featuring alumni and faculty from SLU's Program in Physical Therapy, examined the life-changing impacts of physical therapy research. Each speaker discussed their own research and its potential implications while highlighting needs for future physical therapy research.

To learn more about SLU PTSA's fundraising goal, make a gift or check the fundraising progress, please click here. Thank you to Erin Hmiel and Delaney Walker, Vice-Presidents of Philanthropy in the SLU Physical Therapy Student Association (PTSA), for representing SLU at the FPTR Award Ceremony.
Top fundraising schools, like Saint Louis University, were announced on June 23, 2021, at the Foundation's 2021 Awards Ceremony. FPTR Trustee and PT Pintcast podcaster Jimmy McKay, PT, DPT, hosted the event with special guests. The FPTR announced all winners live during their broadcast. For a list of all schools recognized during the ceremony, check out the Foundation's latest news.
The Marquette Challenge unites PT & PTA students from across the country in a singular effort to raise money for the FPTR and their awardees. Since its founding in 1989, thousands of students have helped raise over $4.4 million through the Marquette Challenge to support the mission of the FPTR.
